Program Options

Solar Solutions (Ages 5 to adult; 60 minutes)

Every day, we impact the balance of natural cycles on earth. Join us as we conduct experiments to find out how we impact these cycles. Then explore the ways new innovations, like solar power and community microgrids, help us return balance to the environment.

Turning the Tide (Ages 5 to adult; 60 minutes)

Water, the basis of life as we know it, is an incredibly dynamic and important substance. Explore the phases of water and how we can help maintain water’s balance on planet Earth. Discover how rising sea level affects people, animals, and habitats, including the San Francisco Bay.

Protecting Our Plankton (Grades 6-8; 60 minutes)

Have you heard of important “sea butterflies?” These fascinating creatures are called pteropods and they’re vital to the ocean’s health. Join EcoCenter naturalists to investigate the role these intriguing animals play in the food web, measure and observe the changing chemistry of the ocean, and look for potential solutions to slow the effects of ocean acidification on these mighty marine organisms.

Climate Stewards (Grades 9-12; 60 minutes)

How do we know the earth is warming? Find out what scientists have to say about it as we learn about the nature of science. We’ll cover climate change basics, experiment with the gases that are causing our planet to heat up, and explore how human actions affect local wildlife in Bayview Hunters Point. See what we can all do to make a positive difference and meet a California king snake!
